This sweet sundal is everybody's favorite. It has both sweet and savoury versions. A naivedyam made during navarathry times. Enjoy the day!


Red small variety bean seed (or) whole green gram dhal                      - 2 cups
Freshly grated coconut                                                                                  - 3 tbsps
Powdered jiggery                                                                                            - 1 cup
Cardamom ( powdered)                                                                                 - 5 nos
Ghee                                                                                                                  - 2tbsps


Wash and soak whole dhal for minimum three to four hours.
Wash again and pressure cook with just enough water .
Heat jiggery with half cup of water in a frying  pan .
When it melts , strain through a strainer and reheat .
When it comes to thick syrup add all the moisture evaporates .
Add grated coconut , powdered elaichi and remove and remove from heat .
When cooled its ready to serve.
