ELLU SADAM / SESAME RICE / TIL RICE

Ellu sadam/Sesame rice is a very simple rice recipe which we generally during the Saturdays of the Tamil month Puratasi. (Between sep 15 & oct 15)
For this kaanum pongal I am posting this, Ellu sadam recipe / sesame rice recipe. In South Indian temples,this Ellu Sadam is given as prasadham. This ellu sadam is preapared on Aadi perukku Day also.

INGREDIENTS

Good quality raw rice     - 1 cup

Gingelly oil                         - 1 tsp
Water                                 - 2 ½ cups

INGREDIENTS FOR GRINDING


Sesame seeds              - 3 tbsps

Urad dal                        - 2 tsps
Red chillies                   -2 nos
Groundnuts                 - 1 tbsp
Salt                                   - to taste



FOR SEASONONG

Gingelly oil                    - 2 tbsps
Mustard seeds              - 1 tsp
Urad dal                           - 1 tsp
Channa dal                      - 1 tsp
Broken red chillies       - 2 nos
Curry leaves                     - 1 sprig

FOR GARNISHING

White sesame seeds   - 2 tsps
Curry leaves                 - 1 sprig
( dry roast the white sesame seeds till light golden colour with curry leaves.)



METHOD

Wash the rice and pressure cook by adding 2 ½ cups of water and with 1 tsp of gingelly oil.
Spread the cooked rice in a plate and allow it to cool completely.
(Separate the cooked rice grains with the help of the fork.)
Heat a pan, dry fry the sesame seeds till they starts to sputter.Keep aside.
Then add the remaining grinding ingredients to the pan and dry fry them till the dals turn golden  colour
Allow the fried ingredients to cool and then grind it to a coarse powder in a mixer with required salt.
Heat Oil in a pan and add mustard seeds. When the mustard seeds starts to sputter, add channa dal, urid dal and fry till they turn to golden colour.Then add broken red chilli,and curry leaves.
Add the ground sesame seed powder to the above mixture and fry for a second in lower flame.
Add cooked and cooled rice  and mix well  gently.
Garnish it with dry roasted sesame seeds .
Ellu Sadam / Til Rice /Sesame Rice, with nice aroma of Ellu /Sesame is now ready for neivedhyam.
