Are you bored of usual kuzhi paniyarams, then try this spicy masala jack fruit kuzhi paniyaram.Generally we prepare sweet unniyappam /paniyarams, Jack fruit unniyappam / paniyaram etc.But this time I have prepared  the paniyarams with some jack fruit  adding chilli powder, peanuts etc.for the spice lovers. Try this spicy jackf fruit kuzhi paniyaram. You can have this as a tea time snack, It can be prepared instantly if you have idly batter and paniyaram pan with you. But I usually grind fresh batter for making kuzhi paniyarams.


Raw rice                                   - 1cup
Urad dal                                    - 1cup
Jack fruit puree                     - 1 cup
Thick sour butter milk       - 2 cups
Chilli powder                          - 2 tsps
Asafoetida                                   - ¼ tsp
Peanuts                                     - a handful
Pepper corns                          - 12 corns
Salt                                              - to taste
Oil                                               - for frying paniyarams


Wash and soak rice and urad dal together for two hours.
Grind to a smooth paste adding enough butter milk, salt, chilli powder, and asafetida.
Finally add the jack fruit puree and mix well.
Add pepper corns, peanuts and mix well.
Heat appa karai, and pour oil in each mould.
Pour one small ladle full of batter in each mould and cook in a medium flame.
Turn over to other side , cook till it turns golden colour on both sides.
 Remove from the oil by pricking the centre with the needle.
Drain over a colander for the excess oil.
Spicy jackfruit kuzhi paniyaram is ready to serve.


You can add finely chopped onions to the batter.
Instead of chilli powder you can add green chillies and ginger.
