BAKED BHAKARWADI

Bhakarwadi is a very popular Maharashtrian spicy tea time snack. Traditionally the Bhakarwadi is deep fried but we are baking them. Bhakerwadi is additive spicy, sweet, and salty taste; all mixed in one roll with crunchy outer pastry crust. It is perfect tea time snack too. This snack is very much popular in Gujarat, Rajasthan and Maharashtra.
INGREDIENTS FOR THE DOUGH
Maida                          - 2/3 cup
Besan                          - 1 cup
Turmeric powder        - 1 tsp
 kashmiri chili powder - 1 tsp
ghee                            - 1 tbsp
salt                               - to taste
water                           - enough to knead

INGREDIENTS FOR THE FILLING
Poppy seeds               - ¼ cup       
White sesame seeds   - ¼ cup
Grated dry coconut     - ½ cup
Grated ginger              - 1 tbsp
Green chilli                  - 1 tbsp(finely chopped)
Coriander leaves         - 1 tbsp(finely chopped )
Coriander powder       - ½ tbsp
Garam masala            - ½ tsp
Turmeric powder        - 1 tsp
Cumin powder            -1 tsp
Ajwain                         - 1 tsp
Asafetida                     - ¼ tsp
Mint leaves                  - 1 tbsp (finely chopped )
Sugar                          - 1/3 cup
Lime juice                    - from half a lemon


METHOD
Mix all the ingredients mentioned under INGREDIENTS FOR THE DOUGH and stir well .Add water little by little and knead until you get a firm dough .keep aside .
Heat a pan and fry poppy seeds and sesame seeds on a low flame till nice smell comes out .
Next add dry coconut in the same pan and fry till light golden .
In a mixer add roasted poppy seeds , sesame seeds , coconut and all other ingredients except sugar mentioned under FOR THE FILLING .pulse once or twice so that everything is mixed well .Now add the sugar and mix well .
Pre-heat the oven to 180 degree Celsius .
Divide the dough into three .
Place one ball and roll out thin .Brush with lime juice .Spread 1/3rd of the filling .press the filling to set in .
Roll from one corner to the other and cut  them of ¼ inch size.Arrange the bhakarwadi on a greased baking tray and bake it for 35 to 40 minites or until brown and crispy .Cool down and serve .
