Oothappam is a popular and delicious dish of Tamilnadu.Usually oothappams are preapared with idli batter adding chopped onions, tomatoes , green chillies, grated carrots etc. of our choice. I have preapared oothappams with Rawa/ Sooji.we don't need any accompaniments for this rawa oothappam, cause, this rawa batter is mixed with coriander chutney.You can also make mini oothappams as appetizer.It is very easy and simple to preapare, but tastes so good.
INGREDIENTS
Rava
( sooji ) - 2 cups
Rice
powder - ½ cup
Sour
curd - 1 cup
Water - 1 cup or as needed(depends
on the consistency of curd)
Salt - required for batter
oil - for
preparing oothappamINGREDIENTS FOR CORIANDER CHUTNEY
Green
chillies - 4 nos
Small
onions - 4 nos
Ginger
- ½ inch piece
Salt -
required for chutney.
Curd - ¼ cup
INGREDIENTS FOR
TOPPING
Onions - 3 nos(finely
chopped)
Tomatoes - 2 nos(finely chopped)
METHOD
To start with, grind
coriander leaves, green chillies,ginger, small onions and salt adding curd to a fine paste. Keep aside.
Mix curd salt, rava and
the ground coriander chutney, with one cup of curd and water.
(The consistency of the
batter should be little thicker than the dosa.)
Cover it and leave for
two hours..
Heat a tawa and grease it
with oil.
Spread one ladle of batter on it, drizzle a tsp of oil around the
sides of the oothappam, sprinkle finely chopped onions and tomatoes on the top
of the batter, drizzle some oil on the top of the onions and tomatoes and close
the tawa with a lid.
Cook at low flame and and
turn it to cook the other side just for a minute.(cook on a low flame to make
oothappams tasty.)
Coriander Chutney Rawa
oothappam topped with onions and tomatoes are ready to serve.
Serve it hot and no need
of any accompaniments.
VARIATIONS
Preapare plain oothappams
without any toppings.
PLAIN OOTHAPPAM
Mix chopped onions and
tomatoes to the batter and preapare oothapams as per the above method.Image is shown below.
