TUVAR DAL FOUR IN ONE RECIPE / RED GRAM DAL FOUR IN ONE RECIPE


We always try one dish from one recipe, but this is a different one, four variety dishes from one recipe.A recipie from thuvar dal.
Thuvar dal is a main item in every Indian’s grocery list.We Indians  use this dal for  many dishes like sambar, dal fry etc.
For a change I have preapared idlis out of thuvar dal, a fully protein packed  dish either for your breakfast or for your dinner. A four  in one recipie from which  You can make two types of  thuvar idlis, thuvar dosas, and thuvar upuma.

INGREDIENTS FOR BATTER

Par boiled rice                                - 2 cups
Thuvar dal                                        - 3/4 cup
Urad dal                                            - ¼ cup
Salt                                                     - to taste

Fry a tsp of cumin seed in til oil or in ghee and add it to the batter before preaparing idlis.

METHOD FOR MAKING IDLIS

Wash and soak the rice for two hours
Soak thuvar dal and urad dal  together for two hours.
Grind both the dals till smooth frothy.
Grind rice toa fine rawa consistency.
Mix the ground dals and rice together  adding salt.
Allow the batter to ferment for 15 to 2o hours.
Pour the batter to the greased idli plates and steam cook till done.
Serve hot with any chutney or idli chilli powder.




DRUMSTICK LEAVES IDLI /MURINGAI ILAI IDLI

Mix ¼ cup of washed drumstick leaves to the batter before steaming idlis.
Your drumstick leaves/ muringai ilai idli is ready.






INGREDIENTS FOR DOSA

Gingelly oil                          - to make dosas

METHOD FOR MAKING DOSA

 For dosas you can use the same batter .
Pour ladle full over the hot dosa tawa like normal dosas.
Add tsp of oil and flip towards other side. Roast until crisp.
Thuvar dosa is ready to serve.
Serve with chutney. 

VARIATION FOR DOSA

Add drumstick leaves while preaparing dosa.




INGREDIENTS FOR UPUMA

Gingelly oil                         - 2 tbsps
Idli chilli powder             - 2 tbsps
Mustard seeds                  - 1 tsp
Urad dal                              - 1 tsp
Red chillies                        - 2 nos
Curry leaves                      - 1 sprig.


METHOD FOR MAKING THUVAR UPUMA

Mix idli chilli powder to the batter and keep aside for half an hour.
Make idlis from the above batter.
Once idlis are cooled, crumble it.
Heat a pan with a tbsp of gingelly oil add mustard seeds, urad dal, red chillies, curry leaves and sauté it.
Add the crumbled idlis and sauté it for few seconds. Thuvar upuma is ready to serve.





VARIATION FOR UPUMA

Add onions,green chillies any greens of your choice.
