VEPPILAI KATTI SPICY BUTTERMILK / POUNDED CITRON LEAVES SPICY BUTTERMILK


Veppilai katti is usually consumed as pickle made out of fresh citron leaves pounded with red chillies, ajwain and salt.This is a heavenly combo with curd rice. With this veppilai katti I have prepared a spicy buttermilk.

INGREDIENTS

Chilled fresh thick yoghurt                           - 1 cup
Water                                                                    - 2 cups
Vepilaikatti                                                         - ¼ tsp
Small onion                                                       - 1 no
Ginger                                                                  - 1 small piece
Salt                                                                        - to taste


FOR SEASONING

Oil                                           - ½ tsp
Mustard seed                     - ¼ tsp
Red chilli                             - 1 no broken
Curry leaves                       - few.









METHOD

Blend the curd with other ingredients well.
Strain it through a strainer.
Heat oil add mustard seeds, when it splutters add red chilli and curry leaves.
Pour it over the strained buttermilk and garnish with a pinch of veppilai katti.
Vepilai katti / Citron leaves spicy buttermilk is ready to drink.







NOTES
If you don’t get veppilai katti you can use fresh citron leaves with one or two green chillies and blend with curd.

Adjust salt accordingly because in veppilai katti there is salt and spice.
