MASOOR DHAL STEW

Vegetable Stew is a common accompaniment for all main dishes. But for a change I have tried with masoor dhal. It tastes good.
You can preapare it with any dhals or can prepare by mixing all dhals together as you wish.






INGREDIENTS

Masoor dhal               - 1 cup
Turmeric powder   - ¼ tsp
Salt                                - to taste.
Coconut milk           - ½ cup

INGREDIENTS FOR WET GRINDING

Freshly grated coconut     - ½ cup
Green chillies                         -  6 nos
Ginger                                        - ½ inch piece
Garlic                                         - 2 or 3 cloves (optional)
Grind the above ingredients to a smooth paste adding required water.

FOR SEASONING

Cumin seeds                           - 1 tsp
Curry leaves                           - one sprig
Oil                                               - 1 tbsp








METHOD

Pressure cook masoor dhal by adding turmeric powder and enough water.
Heat a pan add oil when heated add cumin seeds, and curry leaves.
Add the boiled masoor dhal, add salt and cook in a medium flame.
Add the ground coconut paste and mix well and cook for another few minutes.
Finally add coconut milk and mix well and remove from flame.
Masoor dhal stew is ready to serve .
Serve hot with aapam, rice rotis etc.

VARIATIONS

You can fry onions while seasoning.
