Traditionally
modhakams are prepared with rice flour and steam cook it.For a change I have
prepared modhakams with multi grain flour with rice flakes, jaggery and coconut milk powder as filling and deep fried it. Fried modhakam is usually prepared with
maida/wheat flour with jaggery filling and fried in ghee or oil. Modhakam is the main
nivedyam for lord Ganesha prepared for
Ganesh chathurthi.
INGREDIENTS FOR OUTER COVERING
Multigrain
flour - 1 cup
Coconut
milk powder - ¼ cup
Milk - 2 tbsps
Salt - a pinch
Ghee - 1 tbsp
Salt - a pinch
Ghee - 1 tbsp
Ghee
or oil - for deep frying
INGREDIENTS FOR FILLING
Thick
rice flakes - ¾ cup
Finely
grated jagerry - ¾ cup
Grated
coconut - 2 tbsps
Cardamom
powder - a pinch
Ghee -
1 tbsp
Blend
the above ingredients in a blender finely and mix well the ghee with it and
keep aside.
Mix multigrain powder,coconut milk powder salt and ghee together.Add water and prepare the
dough to pliable consistency.
Coat the dough with little ghee and cover with wet cloth and
set aside for an hour.
Divide the dough and
stuffing and make medium sized balls separately.
Roll like chappathis
, do not spread too thin otherwise the filling will come out while frying.
Cut it into small rounds, with sharp and small round lid .
Place the stuffing inside and close the sides to form modhak
shape
Repeat the same for remaining dough.
Fry the modhaks in ghee or oil until it turns golden brown.
Drain it in a colander.
Yummy tasty multi grain flour modhakams are ready for nivedyam.
Offer it to lord Ganesha and seek his blessings.
