HOMEMADE MULTIGRAIN FLOUR PUTTU / SATHUMAAVU PUTTU

Puttu is a steamed cake traditionally made of wet rice flour. But I have prepared with home made multigrain flour / sathumaavu to make it more healthy and nutritious.  Use coarsely ground flour to make puttu. You need a special vessel called puttu kutti for making it. A best breakfast for weight watchers, with full of fibre and protein.

Grated coconut                  - 1 cup

METHOD
Mix flour, cumin seeds, sugar, salt, half of the coconut and sprinkle water in smaller quantities and mix well.
The right consistency of the flour is, when you press a handful of flour and drop , it will become Powder again.
In a puttu maker fill ¾ part of the puttu vessel with water and allow it to boil.
Meanwhile fill the puttu kuzhal with puttu flour and coconut gratings alternatively.(fill ¼ part of puttu kuzhal with coconut gratings first, fill the next quarter with puttu flour).Complete the procedure till you fill the puttu kuzhal almost fully leaving one inch space above.
Fix this puttu kuzhal over the boiling water and steam for about 15 to 20 minutes.
After 20 minutes remove the puttu kuzhal from flame.
Gently push the cooked puttu with the ladle, from one end of the puttu kuzhal on to a plate.
It will come into the shape of bamboo.

Yummy nutritious multigrain puttu / sathumaavu puttu is reday to serve.
Serve hot with kadalai curry.
(for kadal curry refer http://www.hottavasandovens.blogspot.in/2015/09/corn-puttu.html)

NOTE
Once you mix the flour, let it rest for 20 minutes.puttu will be softer.
When you mix the flour, just whip the wet flour in a mixer or in a food processor to remove all  lumps.
