DRUMSTICK CURRY LEAVES STEAMED RICE BALLS


I have prepared  varieties of kozhukkatais / steamed rice balls. Here this is a healthy iron rich kozhukkattais / steamed rice balls with iron rich brown rice, drumstick leaves and curry leaves.
 A healthy and iron packed breakfast to start your day especially for anaemic. This is not only healthy a tasty, tangy  and yummy kozhukkatais too.

Brown rice is a staple in many households, This food contains .52 milligrams of iron per 100 grams.

Drumstick leaves have significant source of iron content. And curry leaves  also is rich in iron content  (Iron 29.6mg ) and contain folic acid (Folate 154 mcg or 39% DV).  Eating curry leaves two leaves a day can be treat of anemia.

So with these amazing iron rich leaves and grain as 3 main ingredients this kozhukattais / steamed rice cake is prepared. Let’s go for the recipe.







INGREDIENTS
Brown rice / kaikuthal arisi                          – 1 cup
Toovar dhal                                                    - ½ cup
Tender drumstick leaves / murungai ilai   - ½ cup
Curry leaves / kariveppilai                            - ½ cup
Salt                                                                             -to taste


INGREDIENTS FOR SEASONING


Coconut oil                              - 1 tsp
Gingelly oil                              - 1 tsp
Mustard Seeds                        – 1 tsp
Channa Dal/bengal gram     - 2 tbsp
Asafoetida                                – 1/4 tsp

INGREDIENTS FOR GRINDING

Small onions                             - 6 nos
Red chillies                               - 5 nos
Grated coconut                        - 4 tbsps
Tomatoes                               - 4 nos
Curry leaves                           - ¼ cup
Garlic                                      - 4 cloves (optional)

Grind the above ingredients by adding some water to a smooth paste and keep aside. 
The above ground paste should be of 3 cups measure to boil the brown  rice thuvar dhal powder







METHOD

Wash the brown rice well, drain the water completely and spread over a cloth.
Wash and soak toovar dal for half an hour.
Wash the drumstick leaves and curry leaves well  drain it and keep it aside.
Drain the water, spread over a cloth and powder into rava form in a blender or in a mixer.
Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds and when it crackles add Bengal gram, , asafoetida and saute till it turns golden brown. 
Then add the ground tomato paste mixture which is of 3 cups measure.
Add required salt and bring it to boil. 
When it starts boiling add the washed and drained drumstick leaves and curry leaves.
Add  coarsely powdered brown rice thuvar  dal rawa mixture.
Stir continuously from the bottom without any lumps.
When all the water is absorbed cook for few more minutes at a lower flame .
Remove from fire and allow it to cool for sometime .
Make oval sized balls and steam for fifteen minutes .
Yummy healthy iron rich drumstick curry  leaves / murungai ilai  karuveppilai kozhukkattais are ready to serve.
Serve hot with sambar or chutney .
